#Byrd Tool

 byrdpng.png

Now located in Leitchfield, Kentucky, Byrd Tool was founded in 1979 in Pennsylvania as manufacturer of self-centering sleeves and other small parts for the woodworking industry.  Today Byrd Tool manufactures a variety of tooling for the woodworking industry, including insert tooling for cabinets, groover bodies, and their famous SHELIX spiral cutter heads for planers and jointers, using the latest in CNC technology.

BYRD’s SHELIX spiral cutter heads were the first planer heads to feature a staggered tooth design, and they are still one of few lines of cutter heads available today with the knife edges set on a shear. The unique design provides for a smoother, cleaner cut and less wear. The inserts are individually indexable and replaceable as they wear down, saving you money on maintenance.

VMTW is proud to offer the popular DW735 cutter head for Dewalt 735 planers, as well as replacement insert packs. For our customers’ convenience, we offer both the original and the OEM models. Not sure which one to buy? The simple answer is either one. See the chart below for a helpful explanation of the differences between the two heads. Looking for a different model? Please contact us about ordering options. Note: Because of demand, custom orders will generally take 2 -3 months for Byrd to fill.

Suffolk Machinery Company, the maker of Timber Wolf bandsaw blades, has been in the woodworking business since 1976.  Art Gschwind, the company founder and CEO, began woodworking with his father at just 8 years old. It is this experience at his father’s side that fueled his desire to create the best wood-cutting blades on the market.  This personal investment drives the company to ensure their customers’ complete satisfaction by providing both a superior product and customer education.

Timber Wolf bandsaw blades begin their life in Sweden.  It was here in 1946 that Timber Wolf’s manufacturing partner first applied the science of electro-heat induction hardening (now known as high-frequency hardening) to produce a low-tensioned, high-ductile, incredibly durable silicon steel that is the basis for all Timber Wolf blades today.  The blade teeth are milled into the steel strip, not stamped or crush-ground, which results in a razor-sharp cutting edge. Coupled with Timber Wolf’s unique geometric gullet designs and specialized teeth sets, the result is a superior high-performance bandsaw blade.

Warranty:

Suffolk Machinery Company offers a lifetime time and performance guarantee on their Timber Wolf blades.  Welds are guaranteed on all blades 65” and longer. Any blade that has been improperly sharpened or run on a three-wheel machine is not covered by this guarantee.

#Kirschen (Two Cherries USA)

For over 155 years, family-owned Schmitt & Comp. GmbH & Co. KG has manufactured high-quality woodworking and wood-carving tools under the brand Two Cherries. Manufactured primarily by hand of the highest-quality German high-carbon steel, Two Cherries tools are known for their superior quality and performance. Their chisels and gouges are hand forged and hardened in a salt bath over the entire useful length length of the blade (2/3 of the blade) to achieve a hardness rating of HRc61. The blade length of the professional line of carving tools featured in our store ranges from 120mm to 140mm, depending on the tool, and they all have a standard machine-ground cutting angle of approximately 17 degrees. NOTE: Depending on the type of wood you are working with, you may need to modify this angle.

 #Whiteside

whiteside.jpg

Whiteside Machine Company, now best known for producing the highest-quality router bits in the woodworking industry, started out in a very different direction.  Founded in 1970 in Bill & Bobbie Whiteside’s basement, Whiteside originally functioned as a general-purpose machine shop, providing repairs and special parts to the furniture manufacturing industry of Hickory, North Carolina.  As Whiteside’s reputation grew through repeat business and referrals, so did the demand for custom application tooling, and high-quality production router bits in particular.

Today, the still-family-owned-and-run Whiteside Machine Company manufactures a complete line of carbide-tipped and solid carbide router bits in their 40,000 sq. ft. production facility in North Carolina.  What sets Whiteside bits apart is the company’s dedication to quality, innovation, and customer commitment.  Whiteside is constantly aiming to improve its products through the adoption of new technology, improved manufacturing processes, ongoing research and development, and exacting quality control, including customer feedback and extensive field testing.

whitesidestock1.jpgEach carbide-tipped bit begins life as a simple steel bar that is cut to the appropriate length and then sent to the lathes for general cutting tip and shank formation.  Once the general bit form (“blank”) has been created it is then sent for milling, where the flutes are cut into it.  Each bit typically has one to four flutes, depending on the bit’s application.  After milling, the bit is then sent to the brazing station, where the micro-grain carbide is joined with the steel via an extreme-heat brazing process.  Next, the bit is sharpened via a hand-grinding process that produces the sharpest possible edge.  The final stage in the manufacturing process is to dip the bit in a protective wax coating.  What you receive is a superior quality router bit that provides years and years of reliable performance in your workshop!

Viking Mountain Tool Works is proud to carry a large variety of Whiteside bits for both your standard routing and CNC needs.  Can’t find the bit you need?  Contact Us and we will make every effort to get it for you!.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

All Whiteside router bits are warranted to be free from defects in workmanship and materials.  Warranty is limited to the cost of repair or replacement of the tool.  Warranty is void if tools are altered in any way or show signs of abuse or misuse.
