Our Story

Viking Mountain Tool Works began in 1999 as a one-man operation on eBay. Our founder, Scott Loven, learned woodworking as a boy from his grandfather and reconnected with his passion later in life. As he got back into the hobby, Scott realized it was difficult to safely and effectively develop the necessary skills without a mentor or formal training. Wanting to help like-minded craftsmen, Scott started a woodworking and tool resource business out of his basement, first stocking resource materials and later adding tools that he liked and found useful, with a focus on products of good value.

As Scott’s woodworking knowledge and skills grew, so did the business. Today Viking Mountain Tool Works is a national online retailer with a warehouse in Decorah, IA and a team of full-time employees. We specialize in high quality woodworking tools and accessories for experienced craftsmen, budding designers, and everyone in between.
